Many successful business owners and entrepreneurs have taken a variety of journeys to reach success. There is no set answer on what map to take, what vehicle to use, or how long it will take. If you ask 10 successful people how they accomplished their goals, you’ll most likely get 10 different answers.
There is a formula, however, that I have found to help describe the process of achieving success. This journey, and the desired result, can be summed up this way: D+E+B=R. It’s not an exact science, but if D, E, or B are missing, you may never arrive at your chosen destination. You will most likely not arrive at R.
So what is each part of this success formula? Success as a business owner requires a lot of D, or DESIRE. Without a desire to achieve, there is nothing to move you forward. Ideas and dreams will remain just that. I often wonder how many ideas could be success stories if the person only had the desire to act on them.
E is EFFORT, the momentum required to get the desire moving onward. Effort lights the fire under the dream. It takes your desire and injects it with energy. This is key, because without giving continued effort, day in and day out, you’ll begin to think it’s too hard. Instead, realize the value of the effort and give it all you have!
BELIEF, of course, is essential – the B in this formula. You can have all the desire and effort in the world, but if you don’t believe in yourself or your dream, you’ll never get there. Without belief, you’ll give up. You might try something for a bit, giving it a little effort, but the first small defeat will stop you. When your belief isn’t strong enough, you’ll use any small setback as proof to yourself that it was just an unattainable dream after all. True belief in yourself and your goal, though, will take the desire and effort and see it come to fruition.
These three, then, equal R, the RESULT. Have that desire, fuel it with effort, and drive the effort with a deep belief in yourself. Put these three together and you’ll achieve success! D+E+B=R. It’s a simple formula.
The journey won’t always be easy, but the formula to get there is. Anything worth working toward is worth the time, effort, and energy it takes to get there.
